Hillingdon Smoking Cessation Service.

Hillingdon smoking cessation service is committed to providing accessible, evidenced based services that treat tobacco dependence, effectively helping smokers to stop smoking, reduce smoking health harms and inequality and ensure residents stay healthy, giving children the best start in life.

Accessibility criteria – Clients will live or are registered with a GP within the Borough of Hillingdon, or be in full time study in Hillingdon.

To facilitate a quit attempt, a combination of behavioural support with appropriate licensed smoking cessation pharmacotherapy is provided to eligible residents of Hillingdon who fit into the following agreed priority groups:

  • Children and young people under 18 years.
  • Pregnancy and after childbirth – including partners.
  • Those with mental health issues including substance misuse.
  • People with disabilities and long-term conditions.
  • Routine and manual occupations.

Self referrals can be made via website, telephone or drop in at specific satellite locations across the borough.

Referrals from health and social care professionals, community workers and partners in primary/secondary care.

Service opening times.

Monday – Friday 9.00am – 5pm, with late evening opening until 7pm on Tuesdays (for clients that may work, or have difficulty attending during the day).

Accessible and flexible interventions through face to face, telephone support and group therapy, offered to suit clients’ needs. A range of evidenced based interventions, including behaviour change sessions/advice and support.

A full range of evidenced based medicines/ NRT (NICE 2021) are offered to patients if appropriate.

Treatment plan can be offered from 4 to 12 weekly sessions – dependent on needs of the client.

Satellite clinics held at range of venues, targeted to meet the priority groups.

Borough wide Community Pharmacies are also available to provide behavioural support and pharmacotherapy through appropriately trained and registered smoking cessation advisors. GP practices are equipped to direct their patients to the core service or a suitable pharmacy to engage in an intervention.
